Learn Windows Server 2012 R2 with Free Online Virtual Labs

Once all the requirements are put in place, enable Hyper-V Replica on both a primary site (i.e. a Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host where a source VM runs) a target replica server, followed by configure an intended VM at a primary site for replication. The following is a sample process to establish Hyper-V Replica.

I am pretty new to learning windows server and I have been having a tough time trying to find ways to get hands on experience for it. I came across a third party training simulator for windows server 2003 online but it is pretty out of date. I am looking for a program that can teach me where to go and what to do so I am more comfortable using server 2008 or 2012. I have been searching for weeks for a simulator and I have found nothing. I can read a Microsoft book but getting hands on experience is more important because when I read the book I just forget what I learned a few weeks later. I find what I learn from hands on experience keeps in my head.

As Microsoft Office 365 is being leveraged by more and more businesses worldwide, Windows Server Essentials has started integrating with Microsoft public cloud services. Now with My Server 2012 R2, you can access and manage your documents on both your on-premises server and on SharePoint Online. To set up Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials with Office 365, follow the steps in Configuring Office 365 Integration and Managing Office 365 User Accounts on Windows Server 2012 Essentials . After the integration setup and Office 365 account is assigned properly, sign into My Server Windows Store app, and you will be able to see your SharePoint Online sites.

Media streaming is not a new feature introduced in this release. But I would like to call this out because the media streaming functionalities in Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials have been moved from the server product and rebuilt into an optional standalone package. So, if you find the media streaming functionality missing on your server, install the Windows Server Essentials Media Pack to stream media to your My Server apps.

Further, when you install Windows Server 2012 R2 on an Itanium-based computer, you must have an Intel Itanium 2 processor and additional hard disk space. Computers with more than 16 GB RAM require additional disk space for paging, hibernation, and dump files. With disk space at an all-time minimum cost, it is easy to acquire a high-capacity hard disk. You will certainly need plenty of disk space on a server that will be a domain controller in a large domain.

When you shut down a Windows Server 2012 R2 computer, it displays the Shutdown Event Tracker dialog box, which asks you for a reason for shutting down the server. For learning purposes, it is helpful to disable this item. You can do so by typing gpedit.msc to open the Local Group Policy Object Editor. Navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System, right-click the Display Shutdown Event Tracker policy, and click Properties. On the dialog box that appears, click Disabled and then click OK.

A broad range of Microsoft applications run in Azure VMs, including BizTalk Server 2013 and later versions, Dynamics AX 2012 R3 and later, and Exchange Server 2013 and later versions. For a complete list of supported Microsoft server software please refer to the documentation.

As for the compute platform (servers), they need to be ready for the latest and greatest hypervisors. I'm preparing a few upgrades to Windows Server 2012 R2 with the Hyper-V role, and one of the servers will need a BIOS upgrade to get there. Now the good part here is because Hyper-V on this system is installed as a role, I still have the entire Windows UI to install the BIOS upgrade.

A server computer running Hyper-V can be configured to expose individual virtual machines to one or more networks.Hyper-V was first released with Windows Server 2008, and has been available without additional charge since Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8. A standalone Windows Hyper-V Server is free, but has a command-line interface only. The last version of free Hyper-V Server is Hyper-V Server 2019, which is based on Windows Server 2019.

You can configure Microsoft Windows Server's IIS SMTP server to send email through Amazon SES. These instructions were written using Microsoft Windows Server 2012 on an Amazon EC2 instance. You can use the same configuration on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2.
